Carmona was previously a settlement referred to as Latag, which was annexed on the town of Silang upon the latter's development in 1595. The origins of its identify are not known. In 1856, the settlement's inhabitants demanded the conversion of Latag right into a city, spearheaded by Tiburcio Purificacion.
