NACA test pilot Donovan Heinle manufactured the aircraft's previous flight when he ferried it from Moffett Discipline to Andrews Air Force Foundation, arriving on 10 August 1954. The aircraft was saved there for 7 decades before Smithsonian staff trucked it to the museum's Garber storage facility in Suitland, Maryland.
